Staying Safe: Avoiding Common Scams Targeting KeepKey Users

Highlighting some common scams we see in our support

Warning on Scams: Protecting Your KeepKey Wallet

At KeepKey, we are committed to safeguarding your digital assets, but it’s crucial to remember that your security starts with you. We’ve noticed an increase in scam attempts targeting our users, and we want to highlight some common tactics to ensure you don’t fall victim to these schemes.

Common Scams to Watch Out For:

  1. Fake “Account” Emails Demanding Payment:
Scammers often send out emails pretending to be from KeepKey, claiming that your account has been compromised or that funds are being held, and demand a payment for the release of your funds. Let’s set the record straight: KeepKey is a non-custodial wallet. This means we do not hold your funds, and we never will. Any communication suggesting otherwise is a scam, plain and simple.

  2. Phishing Links and Fake Websites:
Scammers might also attempt to lure you into clicking on malicious links or visiting fake websites that closely resemble KeepKey’s official site. These sites are designed to steal your private information, including your recovery phrase. Never enter your recovery phrase anywhere except within your KeepKey device. KeepKey support will never ask for your recovery phrase under any circumstances.

  3. Manipulative Messaging:
These scammers play on your emotions and fears, making you question, “What if this is real?” or “Could this be a mistake in my favor?” They want you to feel a sense of urgency, as though you’re missing out or that something bad will happen if you don’t act immediately. Don’t fall for it. Always double-check the source, and when in doubt, reach out to our official support channels.

Key Reminders:

  • KeepKey does not hold your funds. You are in complete control of your assets, and only you have access to them.
  • We will never ask you for your recovery phrase or private keys.
  • If you receive any suspicious communication, report it immediately to our support team.
  • Stay vigilant and trust your instincts. If something feels off, it probably is.
